In less than 20 days, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 108.67 kg of hydroponic weed through multiple operations across the country under “Operation Weed Out”. These seizures target drug-trafficking syndicates using hydroponic cultivation methods to produce cannabis derivatives. The crackdown includes coordinated pan-India raids, intelligence-led enforcement actions, and follow-ups on supply chains.

The rise of hydroponic cannabis trafficking signals a shift in drug networks towards more concealed and technology-enabled production methods. This demands stronger inter-agency coordination, upgraded detection capabilities, and adaptive legal frameworks to prevent enforcement gaps.
