India celebrated International Literacy Day 2025 under the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era,” highlighting the transformative role of digital literacy in empowering citizens. Key announcements included:
Himachal Pradesh joined Tripura, Mizoram, Goa, and Ladakh as regions that have achieved full functional literacy, showcasing progress across diverse geographies and terrain challenges.
The ULLAS Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, a flagship learning initiative, has enrolled over 3 crore learners and mobilised 42 lakh volunteer educators. Nearly 1.83 crore foundational assessments have been completed with a 90% success rate, supported by learning materials in 26 Indian languages.
