During the State Visit of the Prime Minister of Mauritius to India, the two governments agreed in principle to jointly implement projects under grant and grant-cum-Line of Credit (LOC) assistance, totaling approximately USD 655 million (≈ MUR 29.9 billion).

Under grant-cum-LOC: Projects include completing a new ATC tower at SSR International Airport; development of the Motorway M4; Phase II Ring Road; and acquisition of port equipment by CHCL.

Strategically, both sides also agreed in principle on redevelopment and restructuring of Mauritius’ port facilities, and India will assist in surveillance of the Chagos Marine Protected Area. Additionally, India will provide USD 25 million in budgetary support in the current financial year.

Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India ensure timely implementation, local capacity utilization, and accountability in cross-border economic packages to maximise development outcomes?
