India Expands Biometric Fast-Track Immigration Programme to 13 Airports

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure | SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Ministry of Civil Aviation MoCA | Ministry of Home Affairs MHA

The Union Home Minister inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at five more airports: Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode, and Amritsar. The system enables registered travellers, including OCI cardholders, to clear immigration in about 30 seconds using e-Gates with biometric verification.

Since its 2024 launch, FTI-TTP has expanded to 13 airports, with Navi Mumbai and Jewar next in line. About 300,000 travellers have registered, and 265,000 have already used the facility. The programme illustrates India’s push to modernise border management, combining governance efficiency with global aviation standards, while also raising questions on biometric data protection, privacy, and equitable access as it scales nationwide.
