Indian Team Secures 7 Medals at IESO-2025; Youth-Led Scientific Momentum Highlighted

SDG 4: Quality Education | SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Ministry of Earth Sciences MoES | Ministry of Education MoE

At the 18th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO-2025) in China, Team India won an impressive tally of seven medals - 1 Gold, 4 Silver, 2 Bronze and earned 3rd Prize in the I-GYM Reporter category. The accolade underscores increasing participation from students in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, reflecting the transformative impact of NEP-2020’s encouragement of interdisciplinary learning beyond conventional streams. Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded these achievers and urged youth to channel their creativity toward problem-solving opportunities through government initiatives like Vigyan Jyoti, scholarships, fellowships, and research grants. The Ministry of Earth Sciences continues national-level preparation via INESO across 300 centres, selecting top talent through rigorous evaluations to represent India internationally.

Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India systematically scale Olympiad-style scientific competitions to promote equitable STEM access, especially in underserved geographies while linking top performers to structured mentorship, innovation ecosystems, and research careers?
