Ministry of Tribal Affairs MoTA

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 9 September 2025 between Coal India Limited (CIL) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance & Development Corporation (NSTFDC), operating under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, to support the upgradation of infrastructure and capacity building in 76 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. Under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, CIL has sanctioned ₹10 crore, which NSTFDC will deploy to provide 1,200 computers with UPS units, 110 tablets, 420 sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators, and career counselling and mentorship for over 6,200 students in Classes 10 and 12. These EMRS, part of a national network of 479 schools aim to enhance digital learning, promote menstrual health and hygiene, and support academic and career readiness for tribal youth.

Relevant question for policy stakeholders:
How can similar CSR partnerships be scaled across India’s EMRS network to ensure equitable access to digital tools and mentorship while maintaining accountability in implementation?
