Jal Jeevan Mission: Rural Water Supply and Quality Compliance for August 2025

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being | SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Ministry of Jal Shakti MoJS

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), over 15.68 crore rural households (81%) have been provided with functional household tap connections as of August 2025. The mission emphasises ensuring water supply compliance with BIS:10500 standards and the sustainability of water systems.

Key efforts focus on operational and maintenance strengthening through community participation (Jan Bhagidhari), transparency in water quality monitoring, and training local stakeholders in water testing. The report reflects ongoing challenges such as last-mile delivery, quality assurance, and sustainable service delivery.

The document further contextualises state-wise implementation status, the extension of the mission till 2028, and strategies to realise universal safe water access, integral to public health, rural development, and governance.

Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can JJM’s technological and community-driven innovations be scaled to ensure 100% rural household coverage while sustaining water sources?
