The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) formally launched the National Blockchain Framework (NBF) in September 2024, backed by a budget of ₹ 64.76 crore.
The framework introduces key components including the “Vishvasya” blockchain stack, the “NBFLite” sandbox for experimentation, and smart-contract templates for domains such as supply-chain tracking and document verification. As of 21 October 2025, over 34 crore documents have been verified on the platform. The stack is deployed across multiple National Informatics Centre (NIC) data-centres (Bhubaneswar, Pune, Hyderabad) to ensure distributed infrastructure and high resilience.
The launch aligns with India’s Digital India and e-Governance initiatives, enabling trusted digital platforms and strengthening the “Make in India” vision by supporting domestic innovation in blockchain infrastructure and trust services.
What is the National Blockchain Framework? → The NBF is a government-led architecture for deploying permissioned blockchain applications across public-sector and industry-services; it includes a modular tech stack, sandbox tools and standardised templates for rapid adoption.
