SDG 2: Zero Hunger | SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Ministry of Finance MoF

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) reported that India’s retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI with 2012=100), rose to 2.07 percent in August 2025, up from 1.61 percent in July. Food inflation, measured through the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), remained negative at −0.69 percent, continuing a three-month trend. Rural CPI inflation stood at 1.69 percent while urban CPI inflation was higher at 2.47 percent. Non-food segments also registered significant increases: housing at 3.09 percent, education at 3.60 percent, health at 4.40 percent, and fuel and light at 2.43 percent. While headline inflation remains comfortably within the Reserve Bank of India’s tolerance band, the persistence of negative food inflation signals stress on farm incomes despite relief for consumers.
