The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has released an updated performance backgrounder on the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, coinciding with mid-term evaluations that recommend its extension beyond 2025–26. The note consolidates progress since 2020, reporting central releases of ₹3,791 crore, 1,44,517 credit-linked loans sanctioned worth ₹11,502 crore, training for 1,16,666 beneficiaries, and seed capital support for over 1,03,000 self-help group members. The year 2024–25 alone accounted for more than 50,000 loan sanctions, marking the scheme’s highest annual disbursement to date.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can an extended PMFME be restructured to deepen market access, strengthen value chains, and integrate sustainability standards, while maintaining its focus on credit-linked support for small and micro food enterprises?
