The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), in collaboration with Amity University, organized Purple Fest 2025 on 10–11 September 2025. The two-day event showcased the skills and initiatives of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan). The fest included an art and craft exhibition featuring products made by Divyangjan and 22 entrepreneurship stalls providing platforms for business initiatives. It also featured cultural programs, sports activities, and Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programs focusing on Indian Sign Language (ISL) to enhance professional knowledge and accessibility skills. The event reinforced the message that disability is not a limitation, assistive devices are tools for empowerment, and respect and dignity are fundamental rights.
This framing connects directly to India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and ongoing policy efforts to expand access to inclusive education, employment, and assistive technologies. It also reinforces India’s commitments under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can events like Purple Fest 2025 be scaled to promote nationwide inclusion, empowerment, and economic participation for persons with disabilities?
