Technology Transfer Agreement Signed for SSLVs Between ISRO and Indian Industry Partners

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure | SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Department of Space DoS

On September 10, 2025, a technology transfer agreement was signed between ISRO, NewSpace India Limited, IN-SPACe, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to transfer Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology. SSLV is a three-stage, all-solid vehicle designed to launch satellites up to 500 kg into Low Earth Orbit, with flexibility for inclined or polar launches.

The SSLV was developed as a quick turnaround, on-demand launch vehicle suitable for industrial production, aimed at both national and global small satellite launch markets. The commercialisation of SSLV is expected to boost the Indian space ecosystem, meeting increasing demand for small satellite launch services.

This agreement aligns with the government’s space-sector reforms and is expected to enhance India’s competitiveness in the global commercial space market.

Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can Indian policy frameworks support efficient commercialisation and industrial scale-up of SSLV technology to strengthen the national space ecosystem?
