The World Food Programme’s Nutrition and HIV in Numbers 2024 report consolidates outcomes from operations across 55 countries, underscoring the intersection of food security and health. In 2024, WFP reached 27.6 million people with direct nutrition assistance, including 16.5 million children under five and 9.4 million pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls. Recovery rates for moderate acute malnutrition remained high at 92 percent, surpassing global standards. Overall, 49 million people benefited from fortified foods, and WFP distributed 264,000 metric tons of specialized nutritious foods despite persistent funding shortfalls.
The report also highlights WFP’s role in HIV programming. In 2024, it directly assisted 113,877 people living with HIV and TB, 60 percent of them women, through food, cash transfers, and livelihood support. The 2025–2030 strategy Feeding Health: The Last Mile on HIV aims to strengthen equity-focused interventions, particularly in high-burden countries, by integrating nutrition more systematically into HIV care and community support systems.
